Contains photographs of the following military unit: Coast Artillery Corps, United States (U.S.) Army. General description of the collection: The Charles M. Steece photograph collection includes basically four subject matter areas: railroads in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Coast Artillery guns and emplacements, Fort Monroe, Virginia, and WWI in France. Also there are numerous family photos and one local Cumberland County photo, an aerial view of the "Pass between Mount Holly Springs and Upper Mill, 5 June 1924, 10:35 a.m., alt. 5000 feet, lens 12", co 600." The railroad photos show trackage and train in the gorges of the Rockies. The coast artillery photos are of 12" disappearing guns and 12" mortars firing and in fort emplacements and officers and crews of the Coast Artillery Corps. There are several views of Fort Monroe and Hampton Roads, Virginia and the Atlantic Fleet in the Roads. The photos of WWI in France show coast artillery soldiers in camp and the staff of the chief of ordnance on which Charles M. Steece served.
